Can some explain what this is?

Its a Type 3 slantback, as opposed to the squareback or notch. They are more rare now but were pretty common. My mom had a squareback when I was a kid.

It's called a CC.

If you want to believe that go ahead. It’s not, maybe I won’t help you next time.

It’s a Type 3 Fastback, no clue why it’s listed as a CC.

Oh ok. Do these have an engine in the back? Do they have the same running gear as a bug?

Yeah I found that strange too.

They are rear engined, and they have a relative of the bug engine in them. For the most part, they’re their own vehicle though, albeit broadly similar to a Beetle. Juuust different enough that parts availability is apparently pretty crap, which is a shame since I love these things.

Yes and yes. They are great.

They have VW’s “pancake” engine, different cooling setup from the Beetle for a lower package, allowed for two trunks front and back.

It’s a VW Type 3 Fastback. I see this one running around occasionally:

If you’re shopping, and it’s fuel injected (they were one of the first production FI’s I think) in the passenger side rear is a largeish discrete circuit board up above the fender. If you see damage there, it might indicate a future problem? (Learned on a 60’ 4-speed FI Squareback. Mom taught me how to double clutch then since syncho wasn’t up to snuff then.)
